About Dr. Kate
From a hardworking past…
Dr. Kate Harrison is an experienced leader who has a proven record of working in high-pressure situations and making important decisions that affect families and students. She has a lifelong passion for teaching, coaching, and education, and now she’s running for the Boerne ISD to help the school board navigate the challenging times we’re living in.
…to an ambitious present…
Dr. Kate grew up in New England and went on to attend Yale University and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She moved to Texas with her husband, Corey, who served in the United States Air Force and was deployed to Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Kate and Corey settled down in Texas Hill Country and are raising three teenage boys here. Their family has a deep appreciation for Boerne’s close-knit community feel, the agricultural and rodeo lifestyle, and the excellent public school system.
…for a brighter-looking future.
As an Emergency Medicine physician, Dr. Kate has a high level of knowledge in the healthcare field and knows how to work collaboratively to solve problems. She is an advocate for her patients and will be an advocate for the students, teachers and staff of BISD. She currently works in the Emergency Department at Brooke Army Medical Center, proudly serving on the frontlines of the COVID pandemic and taking care of military families as well as teaching and supervising medical residents. She has served the district on the Student Health Advisory Committee for two terms, first for Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary and now for Boerne High School. When Dr. Kate isn’t working, she is at Boerne City Park for her boys’ swim and water polo meets, at HS cross country races, or attending St. Helena’s Church. Her family loves to hunt and hike and enjoy all of the outdoor activities that beautiful South Texas has to offer.
Dr. Kate’s Priorities
1. Support for Teachers
Dr. Kate will help foster an environment that recruits, develops, and retains the best possible teachers by remaining competitive with area districts, as well as plan responsibly for growth.
2. Sustainable Growth
Dr. Kate will work with community stakeholders to ensure the continued small town feel and excellence in education and resources that have set Boerne apart. She will listen intently and seek involvement with our community as we work toward a possible bond in 2022.
3. Professional Insight
Adding a physician’s voice to the board will provide more insight and support to maintain excellence in education, as well as protect the health of students, teachers, and staff from the current pandemic and beyond. Dr. Kate believes in supporting in-classroom education for the vast majority of children, with distance learning options for those who need it.
4. Stronger Relationships
Throughout all the efforts of BISD is a real effort to compassionately engage and hear our amazing parents. Dr. Kate will help maintain a sharp focus on regular outreach to families beyond our annual survey to ensure the board is well-informed, open, and responsive.
5. Strong Family and Educational Values
Dr. Kate has a deep appreciation for Boerne’s close-knit community feel, the agricultural and rodeo lifestyle, and the excellent public school system. She chose this area to raise her boys because of the shared values among so many of the families and residents.
